Optical Scanning Systems

Resonant scanners have virtually unlimited operating life and a proven record of years of performance. Resonating at their natural frequency (sinusoidal motion) and a ONE FIXED frequency combined with high device "Q" (in the order of 100 to 1000) assure frequency stability, low reaction forces and consumption of low electrical drive power. High flexural stiffness provides good resistance to shock and vibration, as well as low wobble and good scan repeatability. The scanners are excellent candidates for a multitude of applications that require line scan imaging with excellent resolution and with minimal distortion.
Resonant scanners are especially suitable for dedicated, high volume, OEM industrial applications that can easily be incorporated in small size, hand held and portable instruments, sub systems and systems.
Scanners are used in continuous inspection systems to perform 100% inspection to detect defects with one scanner or with multiple line scan.

For large volume OEM manufacturing we would consider providing free information to build the driver, incorporate it within an existing or new drive electronics or build it to a desired size.

We offer standard and custom SCANNING SYSTEMS:
- optical scanners phase locked to a stable external clock signal
- scanning systems that lock two scanners of the same frequency in a master/slave mode to generate a repetitive pattern (e.g.: a circle or an ellipse)
- X,Y scanning systems that lock two scanners in a master/slave mode to generate a repetitive pattern (e.g.: a raster scan or a Lissajous pattern)
- X,Y raster (area) scanning systems generated by a resonant scanner and a galvanometer scanner
OPTICAL SCANNING and DEFLECTING SYSTEMS

Model SC-SYS-1S
The PLD-1S driver phase locks any resonant scanner (type SC, except for the subminiature scanners) to an external clock signal, to provide a stable scanning frequency[sub]system. The system can be used as a "stand alone" unit, in the laboratory, or can be incorporated into a larger instrument/system. The scanner is ONE FIXED FREQUENCY, picked from the range of 5 Hz to 16 kHz.
You need to specify the exact clock frequency (to 4 decimal places).
This system is not recommended for use in temperature sensitive applications.

Model SC-SYS-2S
The SC-SYS-2S scanning system consists of two identical resonant optical scanners (type SC), scanner "A" and scanner "B", in a locked in phase MASTER/SLAVE mode, to generate a circle or an ellipse or lock both scanners in phase or at 0 degrees or at 180 degrees.
The system can be used as a "stand alone" unit, in the laboratory or as a portable instrument, or incorporated into a larger instrument/system. The two identical scanners are ONE FIXED FREQUENCY each, picked from the range of 10 Hz to 16 kHz. They are small size, light weight, low cost and long life devices. They require low power drive electronics and do not radiate any electromagnetic interference (EMI). The scanners have high amplitude stability and very low amplitude jitters; wobble is less than 1 arc sec. The scanners are IR, VIS, UV and high vacuum capable. Reference signal and position output available.

Model SC-SYS-2SXY
The SC-SYS-2SXY scanning system consists of two resonant optical scanners (type SC), of different frequencies (type SC, except for the subminiature scanners) locked in a MASTER/SLAVE mode to generate a repetitive pattern, e.g.: a raster scan or a Lissajous pattern.
Scanner "X" is high frequency and scanner "Y" is low frequency. The two scanners are ONE FIXED FREQUENCY each, picked from the range of 5 Hz to 16 kHz. They are small size, light weight, low cost and long life devices. They require low power drive electronics and do not radiate any electromagnetic interference (EMI). The scanners have high amplitude stability and very low amplitude jitters; wobble is less than 1 arc sec.
The system can be used as a "stand alone" unit, in the laboratory or as a portable instrument, or incorporated into a larger instrument/system. The scanners are IR, VIS, UV and high vacuum capable. Reference signal and position output available.
X,Y scanning systems provide inexpensive high performance for applications involving beam deflection: TV, HDTV, for 2D and 3D scanned objects, for color separation, to generate images stored in computer memory and project them onto a screen, to generate data and/or transfer data directly to production units (CAD/CAM) and for inspection systems to name a few. The scanning systems are used for robotics, medical non-invasive research and testing, transportation, non-impact printing and laser scanning, inspection systems and high speed, high resolution display system and machine vision.

Model SC-SYS-XYG
The SC-SYS-XYG scanning system locks a resonant optical scanner (type SC), Locks a Resonant Scanner with a galvanometer to generate an X,Y Raster scan. The PLD-XYG driver locks a resonant scanner (fixed high frequency, "X") with a galvanometer (linear scanner, "Y") to generate a raster scan (X and Y, like a TV screen).
You can use any of the resonant scanners we manufacture for the "X" direction, however Model SC-30 high frequency resonant scanner, at 8 KHz and 16 KHz, is chosen most often. The high speed resonant scanner model SC-30 has a continuous sine wave motion. The resonant frequency of the scanner is determined by the number of lines required for each frame multiplied by the required frame rate.
The frequency of the galvo scanner (the frame rate for the Y axis) is generated from the resonant scanner. It is a ramp type of wave form (constant speed) with a fast flyback.
The basic raster scanning system we offer consists of the following:
-a resonant scanner
-a galvanometer
-a mount for both scanners
-the PLD-XYG driver box with power supply
-additional features are optional.

he PLD-XYG driver is fully integrated with front panel scan angle controls (remote controls are optional). The driver operates the resonant scanner (X axis, high frequency) in a self-oscillating mode, at the resonant frequency of the scanner, and is also generating the Y signal to drive the galvo scanner (Y axis, low frequency).
The PLD-XYG driver has analog position output for the X and Y scanners and remote scan angles (amplitude) control are optional.
No external function generator is needed to operate the XYG system.
For OEM manufacturing we may consider providing free information to build the driver so that you can incorporate it within your drive electronics or build it to a desired size.

To build the XYG scanning system we need to know:
-Number of lines per frame
-For the (X) resonant scanner:
Scan angle [degree, PTP optical]
Beam size, desired mirror size [mm]
wavelength and power of the laser (source)
Frequency [Hz] fixed frequency
Mirror for resonant scanner:
Enhanced aluminum protective coated mirror is our standard mirror
Gold coated (protected) and silver coated (protected) mirrors, beryllium/metal mirrors, are optional or customer supplied.
-For (Y) galvo scanner:
The frame rate (the ratio of the frequency of scanner X to the frequency of scanner Y).
Mirror for galvo:
Silver mirror is standard.
-For the laser (source):
BEAM SIZE [mm]; BEAM POWER; WAVELENGTH[nm]

The PLD-XYG driver has analog position output for the X and Y scanners with optional remote scan angles (amplitude) control. It is fully integrated with front panel scan angle controls and remote controls are optional. The driver operates the resonant scanner (X axis, high frequency) in a self-oscillating mode, at the resonant frequency of the scanner, and is also generating the Y signal form in a phase locked mode to drive the galvo scanner (Y axis, low frequency). No external function generator is needed to operate the system.
