Laser line generators are widely used in machine vision for a broad variety of inspection applications.  In this blog post we explore the use of high power line shaped laser diodes for inspection of large parts, with a particular emphasis on rail inspection systems which are used to acquire high-resolution digital images and 3D profiles of the rails and beds. Nobel Prize Awarded for Laser Physics

Last week the  Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced this year’s Nobel prize in physics was being awarded “for groundbreaking inventions in the field of laser physics.” This year’s award is to be split, Arthur Ashkin (awarded one half) for his work on optical tweezers, and Gerard Mourou and Donna Strickland (awarded one quarter each) for their ultra-fast research.
