G&H Barle 25mm SWIR lensesLENSES FOR TRANSMISSION AND IMAGING

Custom lenses are a key optical component for many transmission and imaging applications in the aerospace, security, defense, machine vision, health care, and life science industries.
We manufacture custom lenses for imaging, focusing, collimation and illumination, using standard polishing and grinding techniques, as well as single point diamond turning. Coatings are available for visible through long wave infra-red (LWIR) wavelengths with high efficiency and excellent durability.
We take a design-for-manufacture approach to lens production, facilitating the production of cost-effective, high quality custom lenses.
At Gooch & Housego, we offer a comprehensive range of lens designs and materials, in combination with sophisticated glass processing capabilities and optical coatings for the visible and IR.
We have invested in automated machine grinding, polishing, and centering capacity to enable volume production, supported by a strong Quality Management System.
  • Plano, concave, convex, diffractive, aspheric lenses
  • Singlets, doublets, triplets, achromats
  • Round or complex edges and bevel structures
  • Single point diamond turning
  • Materials: glasses, silica, silicon, germanium, GaAs, ZnS, ZnSe, CaF2, chalcogenides
  • Coatings: 400 nm to 14 ¥ìm
We design for manufacture, using optical and mechanical modelling to optimize performance within known manufacturing limits and ensure a consistently high level of product quality. Our lens processing capabilities include CNC generating, grinding, and polishing. We polish spherical, semi-spherical, and aspheric lenses. Single point diamond turning is used for diffractive optical elements.
  • Plano lenses: 5-300 mm diameter
  • Spherical lenses: up to 200 mm diameter
  • Glass aspherical lenses: up to 60 mm diameter
  • IR aspherical, diffractive, and hybrid lenses: up to 250 mm diameter
  • Radius from 2.0 mm to infinity
  • Surface figure: up to 1/50 wave peak to valley (P-V)
All lenses are validated using state-of-the-art metrology, often including reflectance and transmission measurements. We offer environmental guarantees for adhesion, abrasion, humidity, temperature. Environmental testing is available on-site, and other tests are available on request.

LENS ASSEMBLIES

The full performance of an InGaAs camera can only be realized when used in conjunction with a specifically designed high precision short wave infra-red (SWIR) lens system. We have designed and manufacture such a SWIR lens assembly providing optimal SWIR imagery for machine vision and security applications. The lens allows for allows for accurate object identification otherwise not possible in the visible band. Please see the associated datasheet for further information.

COMPOUND LENSES

G&H manufacture doublets and more complex sub-assemblies: performing alignment, bonding, centering, and grinding. Many components are delivered in easy to handle assemblies. All doublets, triplets, and assemblies are cemented and inserted into housings in a class 100,000 cleanroom.

SINGLE POINT DIAMOND TURNED LENSES

Single point diamond turning can deliver a large diameter diffractive aspheric lens to maximize optical performance and reduce weight, particularly relevant at longer wavelengths. Given their larger size and the long wavelength application, the form can often be improved through magnetorheological finishing (MRF¢ç), a patented, deterministic lens surface finishing process. We use MRF¢ç in combination with sub-aperture stitching (SSI) interferometry and with computer generated holographic (CGH) masters to enhance our capabilities for surface correction and achieve surface figure up to 1/50 wave (P-V) for lenses up to 200 mm diameter.
