Bristol Instruments Improves the

Speed of Its Highest Accuracy Optical

Wavelength Meter

The 228A Series Optical Wavelength Meter now measures absolute wavelength to an accuracy of ¡¾ 0.3 pm in only 0.1 seconds.

VICTOR, NEW YORK  June 2, 2016 – Bristol Instruments, Inc., the leader in WDM wavelength test instrumentation, has announced that it has reduced the measurement time of its 228A Optical Wavelength Meter. This system now measures absolute wavelength to the highest accuracy of ¡¾ 0.2 parts per million (¡¾ 0.3 pm at 1500 nm) at a rate of 10 Hz, up from the original specification of 4 Hz.
The 228A Optical Wavelength Meter uses proven optical interferometer technology to measure the absolute wavelength of CW lasers. Accuracy is maintained over long periods of time because it is continuously calibrated with a built-in single-frequency HeNe laser that is stabilized using a precise balanced longitudinal mode technique. The interferometer¡¯s unique design minimizes the variation between consecutive wavelength measurements resulting in a repeatability that supports a confidence level of ¡Ã 99.7%. To verify performance, every 228A system is rigorously tested with laser sources that are traceable to NIST standards.
¡°Our customers are always looking for ways to improve the efficiency of their manufacturing processes,¡± said Dr. Brian Samoriski, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Bristol Instruments. ¡°The faster 228A Optical Wavelength Meter can now help achieve this goal.¡±
About Bristol Instruments
Since its founding in 2005, Bristol Instruments has focused solely on designing, manufacturing, and marketing precision instruments using its expertise in optical interferometry. Bristol¡¯s flagship products accurately characterize the wavelength and spectral properties of lasers used by scientists and engineers at universities, government laboratories, and industrial laboratories. They are also used for the development and production testing of laser transmitters used in optical fiber communications. In addition, Bristol Instruments provides interferometer-based products to reliably measure critical physical dimensions of materials such as specialty plastic films, medical membranes, and ophthalmic products.
