Polarization-independent Beam Splitters

Advanced Coating Technology

Dielectrically coated beam splitters are used to split the laser beam into two parts. You can choose any reflection coefficient you want here.

Disadvantages of Using Old Coatings
The reflection coefficient of previous high power coatings was dependent on the polarization of the laser beam. Beam splitters that are coated for a reflection of Rp = 50  % deliver a reflection of 50 % with p-polarized light. S-pol light, however, results in a reflection of Rs = 84 %, for example.

Technological Advances
Advances in coating technology make it possible for LASER COMPONENTS to manufacture coatings whose reflection coefficients are the same for both p-pol and s-pol light. The figure shows such a coating (i.e., in which Rs = Rp = 50%), which is the most commonly made request. Other reflection coefficients are also available upon request. These innovative coatings are suited for high power lasers and are available for all standard laser wavelengths. We would be happy to assist you in designing an experimental assembly to optimally suit your needs.
