New Product Launch: Fan-Out Grating PPLN Crystals

We are excited to unveil our latest innovation: MgO:PPLN Crystals with Fan-Out Grating Designs. The fan-out structure enables the phase matching to be tuned by translating the crystal across the optical aperture while the crystal temperature remains fixed.

Key features:

  • Available off-the-shelf or as fully custom designs,
  • Suitable for both continuous wave (CW) and pulsed laser operation,
  • Broad operating temperature range: 30–200¡ÆC,
  • Fully compatible with Covesion¡¯s ovens and temperature controllers.

Covesion offers a range of off-the-shelf fan-out grating crystals for optical parametric oscillators (OPOs), optimised for widely tunable mid-IR output from a 1064 nm pump source. Our fan-out grating crystals are also suitable for difference frequency generation (DFG) applications.

Event: Quantum.Tech USA 2025

Following on from the success of last year's show, we are delighted to be exhibiting once again at Quantum.Tech USA. The event, which is dedicated to the commercialisation of quantum technologies, will take place from the 15th - 16th April 2025, at the Conrad Hotel in Washington D.C, USA.

As world leaders in quantum light source solutions, our expertise spans applications in quantum sensing, timing, cryptography, and computing. With over 20 years of experience in research, development, and manufacturing of PPLN wavelength conversion technologies, we are well-equipped to provide insight and guidance on designing systems that generate light across the visible to IR spectrum for quantum applications.

We look forward to engaging with fellow industry leaders, researchers, and innovators to discuss the latest advancements and collaborative opportunities in the quantum technology field. We invite you to visit our booth to learn more about our products and discuss how we can support your quantum technology needs.

Research Project: SEQOND

Covesion, in collaboration with RedWave Labs (project lead) and Fraunhofer UK Research has been awarded funding through Innovate UK's Quantum Missions pilot competition for the project: Single-photon enhanced quantum optical network detector (SEQOND).

SEQOND aims to revolutionise quantum receivers by developing and demonstrating a novel approach that utilises up-conversion technology. This innovation is set to achieve higher performance while maintaining low costs and providing a pathway to exploit quantum memories. High-fidelity, modular, and scalable receivers are essential for quantum key distribution (QKD), scalable quantum computing, and the advancement of the quantum internet.

We are privileged to work alongside partners Redwave Labs and Fraunhofer UK Research on this initiative. Together, we aim to drive forward the capabilities of quantum technologies, paving the way for secure communications and advanced computing solutions. We look forward to sharing our progress and contributing to the UK's position as a global leader in this transformative field.

Don't miss this opportunity to connect with industry leaders and discover the future of optics and photonics.

Case Study: HiREP

Covesion, in collaboration with Fraunhofer UK Research, has successfully completed the Innovate UK funded, High Rate of Entangled Photons, HiREP project — achieving a major milestone in the generation of entangled photon pairs.

Using advanced periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide technology, the team demonstrated a high-rate (>1GHz) source of polarisation-entangled photons at telecom wavelengths (1560nm).

This breakthrough not only supports scalable quantum key distribution (QKD) systems but also contributes to the wider development of quantum information processing (QIP) — a step forward for the UK¡¯s growing quantum ecosystem.

Event: IoP Celebration of Physics!

We are thrilled to announce that Dr Stuart Coomber is attending the Institute of Physics (IoP) Celebration of Physics event on the 10th April at Nottingham Trent University – representing Covesion as proud winners of the 2024 IoP Business Innovation Award!

The award recognises our pioneering work in Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate (PPLN) wavelength conversion technology, which is an enabling innovation applicable in fields such as quantum computing, aerospace, medical imaging, and defence.

It is an honour to be recognised by the IoP alongside some of the most exciting and forward-thinking organisations in the physics community. The celebration brings together leading physicists, researchers and businesses to shine a spotlight on the real-world impact of physics-led innovation. We are proud to be part of it.

Huge congratulations to our team, whose dedication and expertise continue to push the boundaries of what¡¯s possible with photonics. And a special thank you to the Institute of Physics for championing innovation across industry and academia.
