  • Twice the output in mid-IR compared to standard ORPHEUS
  • Built on well-known TOPAS OPA basis
  • Repetition rate up to 1 MHz
  • Bandwidth limited or broad-bandwidth configurations available
  • Adaptable to different pump pulse energy and pulse duration
  • Full computer control via USB port and dedicated software

Description:

ORPHEUS-ONE is a collinear optical parametric amplifier of white-light continuum pumped by femtosecond Ytterbium based laser amplifiers. This OPA is focused on generating the mid-infrared wavelengths and maintains the excellent output beam properties of a standard ORPHEUS: high output pulse stability throughout the tuning range, high output beam quality and full computer control via USB port.

Parametric amplification is performed in two stages. The first nonlinear crystal is pumped with the second harmonic of pump laser at 515 nm and seeded with a white light continuum, which generates a very stable tunable output in two ranges: 650 nm - 850 nm (first stage signal) and 1350 nm – 2100 nm (first stage idler). The second nonlinear crystal is pumped by the fundamental pump radiation at 1030 nm, and seeded with the idler of the first stage. The output of the second stage is a Signal wave tunable in the range of 1350 nm – 2060 nm, and corresponding Idler at 2060 nm – 4500 nm.

In comparison to standard ORPHEUS + DFG configuration, the ORPHEUS-ONE provides higher conversion efficiency into the infrared range due to the pump energy available for the nonlinear crystal. Up to 80% of pump radiation is used in ORPHEUS-ONE, while the OPA+DFG can only use about 40% of the pump. Furthermore, ORPHEUS-ONE integrates the two stages into a single housing, which minimizes the footprint of the system and increases the long term stability.

The extended range 4500 nm – 16000 nm is accessed by mixing the signal and idler of the second stage in a mid-IR crystal. By comparison, in the standard OPA + DFG configuration this range is accessed by mixing fundamental 1030 nm with idler. This method greatly limits the output bandwidth of the output, producing only 40-80 cm-1 in the mid-infrared. The scheme used in ORPHEUS-ONE can generate >150cm-1 when OPA is configured for broad-bandwidth amplification.
