G&H produces competitively priced Q-switches known for withstanding very high laser peak powers and having exceptionally low insertion loss. During the pumping phase of the laser medium, an RF signal applied to the device lowers the Q-factor of the cavity and prevents lasing. As soon as the RF signal is turned off, the laser medium emits the stored energy in a single pulse with high peak power. Such lasers are well suited for materials processing (marking, engraving, cutting, drilling) as well as medical surgery, lithography and rapid prototyping.
A variety of materials are available, for both polarized and unpolarized lasers. The products accommodate a large range of beam diameters from lamp pumped multimode laser beam diameters of several mm to small compact diode pumped sub mm beam diameters. Conduction cooling is adequate for most diode-pumped lasers with Q-switch apertures less than 1mm whereas water cooling is indicated for most lamp-pumped laser systems. While most Q-switches are designed for one micron laser lines, longer wavelength models are available.
